The simplest and most relatable example I can give to cis people as to what being trans* is like is this: imagine that you’ve just put your shoes on, but they’re on the wrong feet. You might be able to walk, maybe you can even run, but something isn’t quite right about it; everything feels off. When you finally do fix your shoes, everything feels much better. you’re still you- you’re still the same person, but now you have your shoes on the correct feet, and things are so much better.

Especially Bledsoe.

His appointments cost $35, or $25 if you live outside of Dallas, and after speaking with me on the first day, he was willing to schedule a second appointment where we’ll talk about hormone stuff, and during which time he’ll be writing my HRT letter.

Now, that might be because I’m already seeing another therapist regularly at my college. He did say that it’s not recommended for patients to have multiple therapists, so… but yeah.

They are NOT gatekeepers. I cannot begin to express how refreshing it was to speak to someone in a position of authority who actually understood what I was talking about and didn’t spew cis bullshit at me.

Also, Bledsoe recognizes that not every trans* person wants every surgery.

Which means he acknowledges the existence of nonbinary trans* people and doesn’t try to get into a whole WHO IS MORE TRANS THAN WHO HARIAHEFIEHF horseshit arrangement.

And this is very good.

Basically, he’s just A+

I’ve seen on a few other forums that CAMAB trans* folks have also had luck with Porter and Bledsoe. I know that this kinda thing can be handled in drastically different ways due to privilege dynamics.

• you can apologize and your friend can forgive you, but their face is still punched
• you are capable of watching the ground more closely/paying attention to your actions to avoid it happening again 
• if it keeps happening, your sorry means less and less

quiltingqueer asked: TW sexual assault. I'm wondering if trans* men are more likely to be raped? But less likely to be murdered. I can't imagine there would be a very high report rate, at any rate. I just know that in the gay rights movement, while lesbians were less likely to be assaulted they were more likely to be raped, and less likely for anything to be reported, and I don't know if that would hold true here, there are just a lot of cultural parallels.

AFAIK trans men have lower rates of rape and sexual assault than women, they also have higher rates of reporting it presumably because they are more likely to get a successful conviction. trans women are routinely told they are unrapeable so their rapes are dismissed as in this case:

trans women have the highest rates per population for likelihood of being raped or murdered, particularly trans WoC. i think this doesn’t break down so clearly across race lines as a whole because any queer PoC is at worse risk than white trans women but IIRC in no case is a DFAB trans person more at risk than a CAMAB trans person of the same race.
